Light Up St. Matthews has been a tradition for decades for thousands of residents and visitors to the City of St. Matthews. The annual holiday event features musical entertainment, letters to Santa, pictures with Santa, train rides, ice skating, activities for the kids, and fun for the entire family. Free cookies and hot chocolate are available for everyone to enjoy. No matter the weather, most activities are held under a big tent. The event begins at 3:00 p.m. and concludes at 6:00 p.m. when the switch is thrown and Brown Park “Lights Up” with thousands and thousands of colorful holiday lights.
The event is held at Brown Park in St. Matthews, located at the corner of Kresge Way and Browns Lane, next to Baptist Health Louisville hospital. Free parking for the event is across from Baptist Health Louisville at 4007 and 4003 Kresge Way, with easy access to the park via a signaled crosswalk.

The seasonal lights will stay lit nightly until after the New Year. Residents and visitors to the community are welcome to visit the park daily throughout the holiday season to enjoy the lights.

In the case of a dangerous weather event OR due to COVID-19 restrictions some changes may occur to keep the event safe.


Get out those crayons and colored pencils! The Chamber of St. Matthews and City of St. Matthews and contest sponsor Park Community Credit Union are looking for some talented kiddos to participate in the Flip the Switch Coloring Contest. You can download the flier below!
One lucky kiddo and their family will be chosen to Flip the Switch at Brown Park on December 5th as part of our Light Up St. Matthews event. The deadline for this contest is November 26th , to submit the coloring sheets please send a photo of your entry either through our Facebook page or to chamber@stmatthewschamber.com.
We ask that upon submission you provide your child’s First Name and Last Initial as well as a good contact phone number for us to reach you at to inform you if your child has won. The art will be voted on by the sponsor, Park Community Credit Union.

Photos with Santa may look differently this year but sponsor Independence Bank and their elves have been busy getting Santa to pose for some Zoom Backgrounds! While these are not traditional photos with Santa anyone who wants to make their own now can by downloading one of the three high quality images below and launching a Zoom call with their family!
