Eligibility Information

 

The Chamber of St. Matthews is interested in supporting and advancing educational opportunities for youth in the community. To help our dynamic local students meet the ever-rising costs of seeking higher education, the Chamber will offer up to four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from a participating high school Chamber member.

 

Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • A student of a participating high school Chamber member.
  • A senior this year and planning to enter an accredited college, university, junior college, or vocational school in the fall of this year.
  • Submit a completed chamber application including a written response to the essay question.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation with at least one from a staff member of the school.
  • Submit an official high school transcript. An official transcript includes either a raised seal or signature.
  • Demonstrated roles in community service.
  • The student must have a GPA of 2.8 or greater of a 4.0 scale or equivalent.
  • Award recipients must be able ot provide verification of acceptance/enrollment in college.

Application Process

Participating member schools are sent a scholarship packet early in the year preceding graduation. The school then nominates students who fit the criteria of the scholarship, just because a student is nominated does not mean that they will receive the award.

Application Deadline

  • All applications must be received no later than the deadline of 4 p.m. on Friday, March 24th, 2017.
  • All scholarship recipients will be notified by email or mail and recognized at the St. Matthews Chamber April Business Breakfast to be held on Wednesday April 19th, 2017. All winners must be present to receive the awards.

  • It is the responsibility of the school to see that all required information is correct and received by the Chamber of St. Matthews by the deadline of 4 p.m. on Friday, March 24th, 2017. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
